My friend, Linda Swisher who owns Gifts By Small Fry, created this limited edition of 5 (this 11" x 14" size as a giclee) with the help of the wonderful graphic designer, Michael Aronson. It is custom matted and framed to a 20 3/4" x 18" size for the 150th birthday celebration for James M. Barrie in Kirriemuir, Scotland (his birthplace), in 2010. I was invited to speak there but was unable to go so designated that my friend and cohort, Linda, go in my place to represent me and the Disney version of Peter Pan as best she could. Among other things, she developed some pieces, especially for the event and this is one of those pieces.
At the top of the giclee is a favorite quote, "MAY THE CHILD WITHIN YOUR HEART STAY FOREVER."· Underneath the quote you see the image of James M. Barrie (who wrote Peter Pan) and Walt Disney (who made the story even more popular with his film) with famous quotes from them listed above their heads. At the bottom of the giclee it says, "THE TWO MEN WHO MADE US BELIEVE." In the center of the giclee is a silhouette of Peter Pan and Tinker Bell looking out the window of the Darling household with the city of London in the background.
What makes the photo even more special is that it has been autographed by me, Margaret Kerry, Disney's original live-action reference model for Tinker Bell, and Roland Dupree, Disney's original reference model for Peter Pan for all the flying and action scenes, in the l953 film, Peter Pan. (Note: Bobby Driscoll was the voice of Peter Pan.) Roland and I have signed the piece in silver, felt-tip pen. These are our original signatures, not copies. Roland rarely signed Peter Pan items before his death, so it is very special to have his autograph. Roland passed away in 2015.
To make the piece even more special, the piece has been double matted with a dark green linen outer matte and a mottled gold/silver metallic inner matte. An acid-free backing board has also been placed behind the piece to protect it. The piece is framed in a custom black and silver frame with UV glass.
