This is a true gem of a collectible (in my humble opinion). Yes, that IS a photo of Marilyn Monroe on the left and me, Margaret Kerry, on the right. A tidbit of movie history: The "Tinker Bell Myth" is so called because for many years there was a rumor that Marilyn was the reference model for Disney's Tinker Bell!
Being very busy working at other assignments in TV and radio, I had not heard this story. However, my son and two daughters did. It was even printed in a book of trivia! When my kids saw that, they were very upset and contacted Dave Smith at Disney Archives. Dave, who is so gracious, solved the rankling problem by alerting the publishers and the media that the one and only reference model for Tink was yours truly.
The irony of the rumor and mix-up is that, when I was in my early 20's, Marilyn and I were assigned to be photographed for a bathing suit publicity layout for a magazine. It was at the Beverly Hills Hotel. While Marilyn and I were sitting under an umbrella by the swimming pool waiting for the photographer to set up, I remembered that, for once, my camera had film in it!
I took a snap shot of Marilyn and she took one of me. That is what this 8" x 10" glossy photo is all about. Did I like Marilyn? Did she like me? Well, the whole fun story is written up along the lower third of the photo. You can tell the time was in the 1950's because, my dear gentle reader, two-piece bathing suits were considered rather daring.
You won't find these particular photographs of us elsewhere. They have been unpublished until now and they are Copyrighted. I am constantly being teased that Marilyn was a better photographer than I was (Okay... I admit it. She was!).
Under the two photos, I hand write my name, Margaret Kerry, since this is all about ME and Tink. What a great gift for a movie buff!
The photo will come with a Certificate of Authenticity, also signed by me, guaranteeing for a lifetime the authenticity of the autograph, or a full refund would be made.
